One Order, One Pound: How We’re Protecting the Ocean We Call Home

A Brand Born by the Sea

What does the ocean mean to us? Everything.

Maybe it’s the rhythm of the tide. Or the breeze that moves through our lace-trimmed slips. Or maybe it’s simply this: our story began on an island.

Gooseberry Intimates was born in Bali—a place where land and sea are in constant, graceful conversation. Where artisans stitch and dye with bare feet in the sand. Where daily life moves with nature, not against it.

So when we talk sustainability, it’s not just business. It’s personal.

The ocean has always inspired our aesthetic. And now, through our partnership with 4Ocean, it’s also the focus of our impact. Each order helps remove plastic from the very waters that shaped us.

If you're curious to learn more about Gooseberry and what drives us, it starts with honoring where we come from and protecting it for what’s to come.

What Does Conscious Living Mean to Gooseberry Intimates?

Since the beginning, we’ve believed in thoughtful design. Not just in the way a piece drapes, but in how it’s made, and what it stands for.

At Gooseberry Intimates we favor:

  • Intention over impulse

  • Slow fashion over fast cycles

  • Small batches over mass production

  • Staying close to what feels timeless, feminine, and real over chasing trends

But lately, our idea of “conscious” has grown deeper. More grounded. More local.

It’s no longer just about being “eco.” It’s about being responsible to the communities and ecosystems we call home, about understanding that the choices we make, even from something as simple as a lingerie order, can create a ripple effect.

A New Chapter: Partnering with 4Ocean

That’s why we’re proud to share this new chapter with you.

Gooseberry Intimates has partnered with 4Ocean, a global organization dedicated to ending the ocean plastic crisis. Now, every Gooseberry order funds the removal of one pound of plastic from the ocean.

One order = One pound. Real trash, removed from real shorelines—many of which are just miles from our studio in Bali.

We’re not just “offsetting.” We’re showing up.

With 4Ocean, we’re investing in:

  • High-impact coastal cleanup

  • Jobs for local workers

  • Long-term ocean health and environmental restoration

Why Does Local Impact Matter?

Indonesia is breathtaking, but it’s also one of the countries most impacted by plastic pollution. According to the World Bank, it generates 7.8 million tons of plastic waste each year, much of which ends up in rivers and oceans.

The same beaches that inspire us are the ones we’re committed to protecting.

By focusing our cleanup efforts close to home, we’re:

  • Supporting the communities we work alongside every day

  • Preserving the coastlines that shaped us

  • Giving back to the ocean that gave us everything

This is what caring looks like—with feet in the sand and purpose behind every stitch.

Wear Fashion That Feels Good, Inside and Out

Some choices feel small in the moment, like reaching for a lace bralette, slipping into something soft, or pausing before clicking “order.” But those choices matter, especially when they align with your values as much as your style.

When you choose something made with care, crafted by skilled hands in a place that inspires, you become part of something bigger. Whether it’s a piece thoughtfully made in Bali or a purchase that helps remove plastic from the ocean, it all contributes to less waste, to more beauty, to something built to last.

Choosing Gooseberry Intimates means choosing to care: for yourself, for the ocean, and for the story behind what you wear.

That kind of beauty stays with you long after you get dressed.
